Proustite
Proustite is one of the most desirable of species for a collector to own. Historically known as ruby, or red silver, this silver arsenic sulphide (also known as a sulphosalt) is both a rarity and a beauty. This magnificent miniature-sized specimen from the historically famous Schlema mining area in Saxony, Germany is a slate-like light coloured matrix with white rhombs of Calcite and possibly Dolomite/Siderite too, liberally invested with fine ruby red lustrous crystals of Proustite. These measure up to 4 mm and are well-formed and very much intergrown over the specimen. This is an extremely well-balanced display-worthy specimen of this important silver species and retains a superb intense red colour. Ex Professor Werner Paar Collection.
