Description
A well-documented miniature of Phosgenite in Galena, tracing its provenance back to the Rev. Dr Thomas Wiltshire (1826-1902) from its type locality at Bage mine at Cromford in Derbyshire, England. Phosgenite is a lead chlorocarbonate and was originally named Cromfordite. The specimen has a single, all be it incomplete, crystal in a cavity in Galena with grey-black micro-crystals of Cerussite. The Phosgenite crystal measures to 2 cm and is a dirty lemon yellow with a semi-glassy to greasy lustre. It is typical of Phosgenite from this locality and is one of the “must have” rarer minerals of the British Isles.\n
Known provenanceKnowing where your specimen comes from and who owned it adds to its story and value. Good provenance helps prove it's authentic and preserves important details about its discovery.
