Tranomaro is an artisanal mining area located in the Amboasary District of the Anosy Region in southern Madagascar. While the broader coastal region saw initial mineral discoveries in 1902, the specific primary deposit near Tranomaro was discovered around 2014 to 2016. It is an active small-scale mining locality rather than a permanently closed industrial site, though operations remain sporadic and primitive due to the remote terrain and exhaustible pocket veins. Geologically, the area sits within the Precambrian crystalline basement rocks of the Androyan-Anosyan domain. Grandidierite forms here within high-grade metamorphic rocks and associated pegmatitic or metasomatic veins subjected to extreme temperature and pressure, occurring alongside minerals like phlogopite, diopside, and sapphirine.
