Childrenite on Orthoclase
Childrenite, or indeed Eosphorite (Childrenite and Eosphorite form a continuous solid-solution series; Eosphorite being the manganese analogue of Childrenite, the iron end member) is one of the absolute rarities from the famous Paprok pegmatite area in Afghanistan. Both phosphate species occur at Paprok, but are indistinguishable visually and extremely rare. This specimen displays chestnut-brown Childrenite-Eosphorite crystals measuring up to an impressive 1.7 cm in length on a superb glassy crystal of Microcline feldspar. Scattered amongst the Childrenite-Eosphorite crystals are microcrystals of white Apatite. There are also areas on the Microcline of an undefined crystallized micro-botryoidal colourless mineral. This superb cabinet specimen is ex Jesse Fisher and Joan Kureczka collection.
