Quartz Var. "Eisenkiesel" on Hematite
1
1
A delicate, 1 to 2 mm thick plate of Hematite coated with micro-crystals of sparkling jet-black Specularite over which orangey-red Eisenkiesel has developed. From Florence mine at Egremont in Cumbria, England, this specimen is unusual in that the Eisenkiesel, a variety of Quartz with Hematite inclusions, penetrates through the Hematite plate, so appearing in the same places on opposite sides. These manifest as flattened circular crystalline plates to over 1 cm diameter, of opaque terracotta-red with a brilliant glassy lustre. A beautiful oversized miniature of vividly coloured Eisenkiesel from West Cumbria.
