Garnet (Andradite / Grossular)
Specimens of Garnet from the Shap Blue quarry at Shap in Cumbria are a sought after addition to any collection of Northern England minerals. This elongated, well-formed Andradite-Grossular crystal is a fine example and large for this locality. The single crystal measuring 1.4 x 1.1 x 1.0 cm is a very dark chocolate brown (appearing almost black) and protrudes out from a matrix of Quartz and white Calcite. The faces are well developed and exhibit many modifications making it certainly one of the nicest examples I have seen from Shap Blue. This choice miniature is accompanied with a detailed British collector's printed label and was previously owned by William (Bill) Creighton.
