Description
Riemvasmaak is situated in north-west South Africa, about 32 km from the border with Namibia (near the bottom of the vertical straight bit!). This large plate of Fluorite has a flat, matrix-less base covered with part-octahedral crystals up to 5.5 cm on edge, which intersect each other in a random jumble. The whole plate is semi-transparent and of a stunning light chromium sea-green, a rare colour for which this locality is famous. The origin of this amazing colour is still not fully understood, but analysis has shown the Fluorite to contain many of rare earth elements in the lanthanide series. A quite stunning Fluorite from near to Riemvasmaak in Northern Cape Province, South Africa. This specimen comes with a superb 170 x 88 x 25 mm acrylic base and label plaque, made, and machined specifically for this specimen by The Sunnywood Collection company.
