Sperrylite

Unknown Owner
A particularly fine large miniature of mirror bright, silver metallic Sperrylite crystals, up to an impressive 1.2 cm; an exceptional size for this rare platinum arsenide. The crystals show a prismatic habit due to elongation of the cubic faces, with the development of octahedral faces and small cubic terminations aesthetically set against the metallic, brassy Chalcopyrite matrix. From the Oktyabrsky mine within the Talnakh Cu-Ni Deposit in the Eastern-Siberian Region of Russia, this is one of the world's highly enriched orebodies hosting 42 elements that go to form 131 species, of which Oktyabrsky mine is type locality to thirteen. Sperrylite is not amongst this group however, its type locality is in the Sudbury mining district of Canada. This is an absolutely superb and show-stopping Sperrylite from the Oktyabrsky mine.
