Transparent single red terminated crystal of a startlingly gemmy and intensely saturated red tourmaline, from an obscure pegmatite in Russia. Alex obtained this from Dr. William W. Pinch, Pittsford, New York, May 13, 2015 (Bill was a noted expert in Russian minerals and generally in ALL minerals for that matter, whose wisdom is sadly missed). Interestingly, in Alex's notes it was recorded as noted by Bill to come from the Carlton Davis Collection: Carlton being my own first real mentor as I entered the world of fine minerals at age 12 in Columbus, Ohio in the early 1980s. A fine, strange, gorgeous specimen of rubellite. Note: the termination seems to be broken in situ and then rehealed with new growth atop the middle - or rather, eccentrically terminated. It is admittedly strange.
