Beautiful combination piece with deep blue lustrous blocky sharply formed terminated crystals of azurite measuring as large as 2.5 x 2.0 x 0.6 cm in size, these on a matrix that is mostly coated with glistening green micro acicular crystals of malachite. Crystallized completely all around and in great condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jan Erik Larsen. The Oumjrane mining district, situated in the eastern Anti-Atlas region of Morocco, features a complex geological setting composed of deformed Paleozoic sedimentary rocks, including sandstone, quartzite, and shale formations, cut by regional faults and hydrothermal veins. The area has a long mining history that dates back centuries, with traditional and small-scale colonial-era French workings targeting rich polymetallic veins. Modern commercial extraction and localized prospecting have since revived the district, making it globally famous among mineral collectors and geologists for producing vibrant secondary copper specimens and associated crystallization matrices from its desert and underground deposits.
