A cluster of two lustrous deep brownish sharply formed almandine crystals with little attached matrix. This is complete all around and in great condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Located in the municipality of Sorfold in Nordland, Norway, the Buviknakken locality near Buvika features garnet-rich mica schist and felsic chlorite gneiss formed during regional metamorphism. The site is well known among mineral collectors for producing sharp, well-formed idiomorphic almandine crystals ranging from a few millimeters up to several centimeters in size. Following its discovery by Norwegian collectors in the early 1970s, the outcrop became a popular destination for field collectors seeking high-quality crystal specimens embedded directly in the matrix.
