Two impressively long (to 24 cm in length), finger-like Malachite stalactites have grown side by side, but with a gap. Both are fully terminated without damage to either tip, but one has been repaired - reattached near to its base. Externally, these stalactites exhibit a sparkling, glossy, glitter-like appearance and a quite dark green colour. Lower down, two smaller, co-joined stalactites attached to one side of the main pair are missing their tips and the stump of another right at the base shows the concentric internal bands and how the texture of the Malachite shifts from pale- to mid-green in the centre and darker, glossy green on the outer. There is also a contact on this side, where a small part of the surface has flaked away. The other side is free from any obvious damage and has great character, with slightly twisted growth and rippled ridges crossing its length. It is from the famous, long-lived Mashamba West mine which has been operating for nearly half a century in the rich copper- and cobalt-bearing region of The Democratic Republic of Congo.
