Uchucchacua mine is one of several famous Rhodochrosite-bearing localities in the high Andes mountains in Peru, but the style of the crystals is quite distinct from the other mines nearer, in fact, to those found in Potosi mine in Mexico, particularly in their colour. This attractive small cabinet-sized specimen comprises a shallow vug lined with extremely glossy raspberry-sorbet pink crystals of Rhodochrosite. The habit of these crystals is that of elongated, or stretched, rhombs with many stepped faces. Individually, these crystals reach 1.2 cm in length and an unidentified black, pitch-like mineral in association provides a fine contrasting backdrop. In exceptional condition, this beautiful specimen will brighten up any cabinet.
