Brazilian pegmatites are well-known for their diverse range of colours in Elbaite tourmaline and the relatively recent discoveries at Coronel Murta in the Jequitinhonha Valley, Minas Gerais are no exception. This beautiful miniature is multicoloured, featuring three Elbaite crystals of varying sizes in an aesthetic grouping. The main crystal, at 3.1 cm in length, is a broad, stocky, flat-topped prism in excellent overall condition and showing super colours. From its base upwards, it is a strawberry-pink/orange, passing into a very pale aquamarine blue just below its termination and then with a thin raspberry red tip. The next crystal, at 1.3 cm tall, sits just in front of the main crystal but offset downwards slightly. Mirroring the colours of its compatriot, its final raspberry-red tip is much thicker, possibly related to this crystal having an angled, rather than flat termination. Its termination is not perfect and yet does not appear to be damaged - perhaps distorted during its growth. Finally, a small transparent, paler coloured Elbaite crystal with a flat pinacoid termination splays out sideways from the second crystal. A very pretty tourmaline miniature with one reported repair.
