Although well-known for Prehnite, Tafelkop in the Goboboseb Mountains in Erongo Region, Namibia rarely produces high-quality display-worthy Prehnite specimens. This small cabinet-sized specimen from the Hettrich Collection is a really super piece, with really excellent crystallization for Tafelkop. Two spheroidal crystal sprays, each reaching 3 cm diameter sit upon a white bed of Calcite on greyish rock matrix. The peppermint-green Prehnite is composed of many individual bladed crystals alligned parallel in fan-like layers. One spray is immaculate, complete all round and with no damage, while the second, at the end of the specimen, is almost perfect, but is very slightly distorted where it joins the edge of the piece but the sides present are in really fine condition. The underlying white Calcite is extremely glossy and appears to have been etched with acid to expose the Prehnite crystals. The previous collectors label records that it was acquired in 1995.
