Attractive combination specimen with a double terminated deep green lustrous epidote crystal 2.6 cm in length on a ball of crystallized prehnite with numerous smaller epidote crystals. This is in good condition all around.Djouga, located in the Bendougou area near Diakon within the Bafoulabe Cercle of the Kayes Region, Mali, is famous among mineral collectors for producing world-class mineral specimens. Geologically, the deposit consists of hydrothermal veins and skarn-like mineralization where fluids rich in calcium, iron, and aluminum altered volcanic and sedimentary host rocks. Prospectors and local miners in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries uncovered extraordinary, dark green epidote crystals intimately associated with rounded, apple-green botryoidal prehnite aggregates. Highly prized by museums and private collectors worldwide, specimens from this remote West African locality are celebrated for their superb contrast, exceptional clarity, and distinctive habit.
