Good thumbnail for the species, a white opaque non-lustrous sharp crystal of leucite with little attached matrix and augite. In good condition.Located in the Caserta province of Campania, Italy, Roccamonfina is a large extinct Quaternary stratovolcano composed mainly of potassic and ultrapotassic rocks formed by regional Mediterranean subduction-related volcanism. The area is historically famous among mineralogists for producing well-formed, trapezohedral leucite crystals embedded within its volcanic lavas and pyroclastic deposits. These characteristic white to grey crystals have made the volcano a classic European locality for collecting textbook examples of leucite phenocrysts since the early days of geological study.
