Quartz

We are proud to share a remarkable large gold specimen of museum size and huge display impact that comes from this classic old California gold locality, which has enjoyed a modern resurgence with a large investment in mining technology and scientific approaches to exploration. This effort and investment have led to the largest find of specimen gold here, with among the largest crystalline gold mass in length yet found. This came from a vein worked in 2022–2025. This piece was recovered from the same zone (now exhausted and mined out) of the Eagle's Nest Mine that produced the Valentine's Day Pocket bonanza find, in February of 2024. The sharpness and luster of the foil-bright crystals atop, in particular, show that the crystals formed freestanding in an open pocket, spraying up in a massive organic wave from the solid quartz matrix. Trimmed expertly around the massive quartz base to enhance the display, this shows dramatically from either the front or side angles. From the front, it looks much like a robust tree spreading to the sides. From the right side view, for which we also made a base, it appears more massive and "organic" as the gold seems to jump up and out in 3 dimensions. It really looks a lot like a monster of some kind (the vote in our office is that it is faintly reminiscent of Godzilla or a dragon, stomping upon another beast below). The contiguous mass of gold is 18 cm, top to bottom, and fully crystallized! Such large, well-formed specimens of gold, where you have a huge visual field of solid crystals presented against contrasting matrix, are incredibly rare.
