Acanthite is a silver sulphide and the most important ore of silver, a mineral that belongs to the family of sulphides and sulphosalts. It forms at low temperatures, while its high-temperature form, argentite, crystallizes in cubes and octahedra, so most acanthite crystals keep that cubic shape as pseudomorphs.
Its dark lead-grey color and bright metallic luster with a sparkling surface catch the eye.
Acanthite with stacked crystals of cubo-octahedral shapes, with a touch of white matrix.
