Micro crystals of ancylite-Ce on matrix with crystals of synchysite-Ce measuring to 0.2 cm in size. Good for both species at this locality. The specimen comes with a previous label from the geological Museum in Copenhagen.Narssarssuk is a famous pegmatite locality situated in the Igaliku region of the Kujalleq municipality in southern Greenland. While it is not a commercial mine with a formal corporate opening and closing date, the site was actively explored and mineralogically investigated starting in the late 19th century, most notably described by the operational and scientific expeditions of G. Flandrup and G. Lindstrom around 1899, and remains a protected site for scientific study rather than active industrial extraction. Geologically, the area is characterized by alkaline intrusive complexes, specifically nepheline syenites, where late-stage volatile-rich magmatic fluids crystallized into complex pegmatite dikes and drussy cavities hosting a vast array of rare and unusual minerals. The minerals ancylite-ce and synchysite-ce are both rare earth element-bearing carbonate minerals frequently found within these alkaline pegmatites and hydrothermal druses. Ancylite-ce is a hydrated strontium cerium carbonate mineral typically occurring as yellowish to brownish or pinkish crystals, and Narssarssuk serves as its historic type locality. Synchysite-ce is a calcium cerium fluorocarbonate mineral that commonly forms tabular crystals or parallel intergrowths alongside other rare accessory phases like ancylite-ce within the cavities of the Narssarssuk pegmatite veins.
