Lustrous crystals of prismatic pyromorphite measuring to 0.8 cm in size on a crystallized quartz matrix. Very good example for the species and locality. In good condition.The Pcheloyad mine, located in the Kardzhali Province of southern Bulgaria near Krumovgrad within the Eastern Rhodopes, is part of the broader Zvezdel-Pcheloyad ore field. Geologically, the deposit is hosted within Paleogene volcanic complexes, consisting of a basalt-andesite complex and a dacite-rhyolite dike complex that cut through local metamorphic and sedimentary basements, forming vein and metasomatic ore bodies under medium- to low-temperature hydrothermal conditions. Mineralogically, the deposit is dominated by lead and zinc sulfides, featuring fine to medium grained sphalerite, wurtzite, galena, chalcopyrite, pyrite, quartz, and barite. Good examples of pyromorphite were collected here in the early 2000's. Historically, systematic exploration and resource evaluation took place from 1970 through 1991, leading to active mining operations that have since wound down as part of the structural transition in the region's mining sector.
