A classic Tsumeb dioptase from the finds of the early 1980s, rare in such quality and balance. This is not just another "small" dioptase, but a boxbuster thumbnail (large and full) with a unique presentation aesthetic. This dramatic display of a doubly-terminated crystal of dioptase, 2.25 cm tip to tip (approx. an inch!), is what elevates this specimen above the casual dioptase thumbnail into the realm of an extraordinary piece that stands out from others at a competitive-thumbnail level. The crystal is thick and robust, and has that almost metallic surface skin that shimmers in light, of which Tsumeb produced the best. It is pristine save for the tiniest of barely discernible tip contact on one point. The photos speak for themselves, showing the unusual perch on a pedestal of matrix. Long in IKONS book author Wayne Thompson's personal collection of Miniatures/Thumbnails built with his daughter, Stevia, when she was young. Laszlo Kupi photo.
