Hematite from Novo Horizonte, Bahia, Brazil

This Hematite with Rutile specimen comes from Novo Horizonte in Bahia, Brazil, a locality noted for producing metallic hematite with fine rutile inclusions. This piece shows sharply defined hematite blades with a deep steel‑gray luster, forming a strong architectural base for the rutile to anchor into. The rutile needles rise in coordinated, upward‑leaning orientations, each constrained by the geometry of the hematite host, creating a unified directional flow across the specimen.

The rutile is fully integrated into the hematite rather than simply resting on its surface, appearing as golden‑brown, hair‑like inclusions that weave into the hematite’s growth zones. This intergrowth reveals a dynamic formation process where both minerals developed together under shifting geological conditions. The contrast between reflective hematite and warm rutile gives the specimen depth, movement, and mineralogical character, making it a standout example of this classic Brazilian association.
