A stunning, flat, unusually-shaped crystal of rhodochrosite from a highly unusual deposit, the pegmatites normally producing gem crystals in the far reaches of Pakistan's high mountains. Rhodochrosite is normally a product of metallic deposits and large economic ore mines - a byproduct or distraction, to be technical about it. Rhodo was waste material in the old days of some Colorado silver mines. But, rarely, we find it in Brazil or Pakistan in deposits better known for Aquamarines and Tourmalines. This single, luminous, floating crystal is complete all around. It has a wonderful shape and is noticeably different in symmetry from your typical rhodochrosite from the "normal" locations out there. We have purchased several pockets of this material in bulk as they were found, for some reason clustered between 2020-24. However, amongst several dozen thumbnail-sized crystals, this was the best we obtained to our eyes. In person it has a strawberry color; and is a full-sized display thumbnail specimen.
