An unusual and historically interesting old-collection specimen labeled as “Laugensalz” from Halde Ronnen near Berg bei Hannover, Germany, acquired in September 1996 from the collection of H. Wunkhaus. The specimen features a dense coverage of delicate white evaporite crystals richly scattered across a porous beige matrix, creating a highly aesthetic and texturally complex composition.

The crystals form intricate blocky to pseudo-cubic aggregates with attractive stepped growth patterns and strong satin to vitreous luster. Their snow-white coloration contrasts beautifully against the warm-toned porous matrix, giving the specimen remarkable visual balance and depth. Numerous intergrown crystal clusters create an almost floral appearance across the surface, enhancing the sculptural character of the piece.

Old German evaporite material from potash and salt dump localities such as Ronnen is increasingly uncommon on the market today, especially specimens preserved with original historical labels and provenance. Material historically described under older German mining terminology such as “Laugensalz” often represents complex secondary evaporite assemblages formed within saline environments associated with potash mining activity.
