Quartz var. Amethyst

From the famous deposits at Amatitlán, Guerrero, this is a very impressive, large, and sculptural Amethyst specimen of truly world class quality. Its striking clusters of crystals splay out in different directions, offering up a 360 degree appearance with numerous angle choices from which to admire the piece. The sharply-terminated crystals, to 9 cm, have beautiful interiors that vary from water-clear terminations to grape-purple interiors with numerous phantoms. Satin luster and subtle stepped-growth faces add visual texture and enhance the phantoms below. The color and form make these specimens distinctly different from their famous Amethyst cousins (primos) at Veracruz. This piece is nearly pristine and in remarkable condition; and was mined in famous 1960s or the early 1980s finds. It is not repaired and has only a tiny few-millimeter restoration on a tip of one of the minor crystals. This is an exceptional, large-cabinet example that is a floater (complete all around). Specimens of this quality have not come out in decades, as the area is controlled by the drug trade. Specimens of this size AND quality were always rare and hoarded in the most elite collections of the times they came out. A major specimen, the highlight of the quartz suite of the Liebetrau collection. This specimen comes with a custom base and clutch mounting.
