Huanzala Mine, Huallanca District, Bolognesi Province, Áncash, Peru
This is a rare, old‑stock combination specimen of purple fluorite with pyrite from the world‑famous Huanzala Mine in Áncash, Peru. While Huanzala is best known for producing some of the finest pyrite on Earth, fluorite from this mine formed only in small, sporadic pockets that were mined out decades ago. Purple fluorite from Huanzala is especially scarce, making pieces like this increasingly difficult to find outside older collections.
This specimen features translucent purple fluorite cubes resting on a matrix of mirror‑bright, golden pyrite and white quartz. The fluorite shows internal zoning with soft violet to medium‑purple tones that intensify under direct lighting. The cubes have crisp edges and smooth faces, giving the piece a clean, geometric aesthetic.
The pyrite displays the classic Huanzala character — high luster, sharp crystal faces, and rich brassy color — creating a striking contrast with the cool purple fluorite. White quartz adds brightness and texture, completing a balanced and visually appealing composition.
Because fluorite‑bearing zones at Huanzala were exhausted long ago, specimens like this are considered true old‑stock material. A strong display piece with excellent color contrast, sharp crystal form, and desirable locality significance.
