A rare, old‑stock combination specimen of purple fluorite with pyrite from the historic Cerro de Pasco mining district in the Pasco Region of Peru. While Cerro de Pasco is well‑known for its vibrant green fluorite and classic sulfide associations, purple fluorite from this district is far less common and typically originates from older workings no longer accessible today.
This specimen features translucent purple fluorite cubes perched on a matrix of bright, metallic pyrite and white quartz. The fluorite shows internal zoning with soft violet to medium‑purple tones that intensify under direct lighting. The cubes have crisp edges and smooth faces, giving the piece a clean, geometric aesthetic that collectors appreciate.
The pyrite displays the classic Cerro de Pasco character — golden, lustrous, and sharply crystalline — providing a striking contrast to the cool purple fluorite. White quartz adds brightness and texture, creating a balanced and visually appealing composition.
Because purple fluorite from Cerro de Pasco is significantly less common than the district’s green material, pieces like this are considered old‑stock and increasingly scarce. A strong display specimen with excellent color contrast, sharp crystal form, and desirable locality significance.
