Polished "End Cut" of 1950s-1960s Apache Flame Agate, measuring about 8 x 6.5 inches across the face, Wentzell Gem Trust Collection. Thank you to my friend Walter who helped me acquire and build a very nice collection of Apache Agates. Walter told me the pieces I acquired from him were once part of the Rice Collection and were the pieces the cutters (Maurice and Walter) got for sawing and polishing pieces from that collection. All of my Apache Agates have been nicknamed, this one I call the "The Apache Nebula." My fascination with Apache Agates began when I was a small boy reading about the famous Hooded Owl specimen in one of my dads books. I am in love with agates from this locality. There is a facing slice from this agate still on display at the Rice Museum in Portland, Oregon. This piece measures bout 8 inches x 6.5 inches across the face.
