Babingtonite with Prehnite and Quartz$2,750.00

Wire transfers available, to set up
These stark, large and dramatic babingtonite crystals from China are accented by just the right amount of prehnite for accent and contrast; and represent a best of species find from China circa the early 2000s. The sharp, tabular, lustrous, black, randomly oriented babingtonite crystals vary in size from 1.5 to 4.7 cm across and there at least a dozen crystals in this super attractive cluster. The jet-black crystals are beautifully striated parallel to their length and the terminations are perfect and lustrous too with a faint geometric pattern atop, some resembling almost a "herringbone" pattern. Small patches of mint-green prehnite along with a few quartz crystals attractively accessorize periphery of the piece. The color and textural contrast between the prehnite, quartz and babingtonite is noticeable on this well-balanced and significant specimen from the Paul Stahl collection. This is a fantastic small cabinet sized specimen. These remarkable specimens, where even the mid-range material is better than the best of species ever seen from anywhere else, come out of a very small, previously insignificant quarry that, according to Mindat.org, is simply worked by the local farmers. Production continued across the border zone into another Chinese province later, but this early find set the standards. Ex. Paul Stahl collection.
