Chrysotile, Phlogopite
Chrysotile pseudomorph after phlogopite, 8.5 cm, from Amity, Orange County, New York. Collected with Glenn Rhein while digging for spinel. Initially thought to be a giant spinel due to its octahedral shape, but later identified as a mica crystal with a partial replacement of fibrous chrysotile on the top layer, making it a very unusual specimen.
