Rhodochrosite with pyrite (nicknamed “The Worm”), 10.4 cm, believed to be from Santa Eulalia, Chihuahua, Mexico. Tom Spann photo. This specimen won the Romero Trophy for best Mexican mineral specimen on display at the 2015 Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. It was first illustrated in 1980 in the Mineralogical Record’s “What’s New in Minerals? (What’s OLD in minerals?)” captioned as coming from Santa Eulalia (vol. 11, no. 6, page 84). Mineralogical experts have seen nothing similar to this unique specimen that could confirm the locality.
