Pollucite is a hydrated cesium feldspathoid mineral with the chemical formula (Cs,Na)2Al2Si4O12ยท2H2O. It commonly forms colorless to pale yellow crystals and aggregates, displaying a vitreous to resinous luster and a typical radiating or prismatic habit. Its crystals can be tabular, sometimes forming small euhedra within alkaline igneous rocks such as pegmatites, where high cesium contents promote its stability. Notable specimens come from classic localities in Afghanistan and Pakistan, with additional fine material reported from Myanmar and the United States, particularly from remote, pegmatitic pockets that yield well-formed crystals.

About Pollucite

Collectors prize pollucite for its rarity and the association with other cesium-rich minerals in pegmatites, as well as the clean, colorless to pale hues that contrast with more common feldspar minerals. While not as colorful as many silicate species, pollucite crystals can surpass in size and habit when found in favorable pockets, offering sharp, lustrous faces and pleasing transparency that appeals to crystallographers and mineral enthusiasts alike.
