Langite is a hydrated copper sulfate mineral with the formula Cu4(SO4)(OH)6ยท2(H2O). It forms as green to blue translucent fibers or masses and typically displays a vitreous luster and a silky or fibrous habit. Its monoclinic crystals are often coarse, and it shows a perfect cleavage along certain planes, with a relatively low Mohs hardness of 2.5โ€“3 and a specific gravity around 3.5.

About Langite

Significant specimens originate from classic copper-rich locales in Slovakia, the United Kingdom, and Germany, where Langite occurs in oxidized zones associated with other copper sulfates and secondary copper minerals. Collectors value Langite for its delicate fibrous habit and the contrast of color against matrix, as well as its rarity in many classic European localities. Though not a high-relief display piece, well-formed Langite clusters or sprays can be striking under proper lighting, revealing a subtle green-to-blue spectrum.
