A rounded fragment of crystallized Calcite forms the host to an 'island'-like cluster of equant, somewhat bipyramidal Witherite crystals with complex stepped surfaces which are extensively replaced by white finely crystallized Baryte. The original Witherite crystals reach up to 1.9 cm across but several of the crystals are truncated where they reach the edge of the specimen. This reveals the partial replacement by Baryte as a thin outer crust beneath which the original Witherite remains. This style of Witherite is unique and makes a really fine addition to any collection of northern English minerals.
