A large, three-dimensional crystal of this complex yttrium-ferric iron-niobium oxide from Madagascar. The spearpoint shaped Samarskite-(Y) crystal measures 3 inches long and an inch and a quarter wide! Much of the crystal is covered in a nondescript tan coating and is sprinkled with a small amount of Muscovite. Exposed areas of the crystal reveal sub-metallic gray crystal underneath. The crystal is well-formed and tapers from thicker at the top to thinner at the bottom. It's an exceptional display quality example of the species in large size , with textbook crystallography. Most of these date to the early to mid-1900s era of exploration here.
