This is an impressively large crystallized aggregate of coarse lamellar intergrown crystals of dense silvery metallic Native Bismuth for anywhere, let alone Canada. It comes from the Gowganda area in Cobalt-Gowganda Region, Timiskaming District, Ontario, Canada where it is a particularly stunning find. This form of Native Bismuth was apparently a late-stage feature of the regional mineralization and most specimens that have turned up in collections over the years are older pieces, dating to the early half of the 20th century. Weighing in at over 300 g, it has a feel of real substance and is large enough to present a spectacular appearance of pure native metal. This one comes from the superb systematic collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021).
