Brownish orange crystals of laueite measuring to 0.2 cm in size across the top of this matrix with crystals of stewartite. Botryoidal green kidwellite is present as well. In good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Eric Laskowski. The Cornelia Mine, situated at the Hagendorf South pegmatite in Bavaria, Germany, is world-famous among mineral collectors for its exceptionally complex granite pegmatite geology. Formed during the Variscan orogeny, the deposit consists of a zonation of quartz and feldspar heavily enriched in primary iron-manganese phosphate minerals like triphylite. Open-pit operations began in 1894 to extract industrial feldspar and pegmatitic quartz, followed by underground development via the Cornelia Shaft, which later produced lithium ores in the mid-twentieth century before operations permanently ended. Weathering and hydrothermal alteration of the primary phosphates created over 100 secondary phosphate species, establishing the site as a premier locality for rare mineral specimens.
