A cluster of semi-lustrous pyrite crystals, complete all around with no points of attachment. In great condition. Nice for the species and locality. The specimen comes with a label from the collection of Ray DeMark. The TXI Cement Quarry in Midlothian, Texas, operates within Cretaceous-age sedimentary deposits laid down in an ancient shallow seaway, featuring extensive layers of chalk, limestone, and marine shales such as the Eagle Ford Group and the Austin Chalk. Mining operations in this large industrial quarry extract these raw materials for cement manufacturing while exposing fossiliferous strata rich in marine remains. Within these dark shales and contact zones, collectors frequently discover well-formed cubic and cuboctahedral crystals, nodules, and pyritized fossils, where iron sulfide has replaced the original organic material.
