Geologically, the area is characterized by a classic skarn deposit where Cretaceous granodiorite and banatite intrusions invaded older Jurassic limestone and metamorphic sequences, creating intense contact metamorphism. Mineralogically, this complex geological setting fostered the formation of an exceptionally diverse array of over one hundred mineral species.
