Acanthite
S
Tasmania, Australia
A stunningly unusual acanthite specimen and a competitive thumbnail for both the form, and the location. Lustrous dark gray, crystals of acanthite, to 1.5 cm across, have formed a fine intergrown cluster that shows off the structural complexity of the cubic modifications. It is a robust had heavy piece. Many people might own a very fine acanthite thumbnail from Mexico - but this one would blow most of those away in points in competition for the complexity and the locality, a combination that is almost unheard of in this quality. One of our favorite thumbnails in the collection, because it is so unique today, just as it was 40 years ago, I cannot imagine a more startling acanthite thumbnail to exhibit.
