Barylite is a rare beryllium-barium silicate and some of the best crystals or, or crystal portions, like this, come from a single 2018 find in Pakistan: generally realized to be best of species and producing facetable crystals as well. This is one of the world's finest barylite crystal portions of this quality that we are aware of and it comes from that pocket, which Paul would have purchased at the time they came out to Munich in 2018-19. The Paul Stahl collection was noted for his aesthetic taste in fine rare species. It is gemmy to translucent, glassy with a pale blue tint, especially on the outer crystal edge with a color very reminiscent of celestite. This crystal segment measures 3.4 cm in width and 2.9 cm in length and 1.1 cm in thickness. The bottom is particularly gemmy and has some cutting rough, for what it is worth. The top is crudely terminated or contacted, but the very top is complete and the side extending on a slope downward is mostly complete. It is super lustrous! Anybody seeing this massive example of a rare species would be stumped to identify it, if you had not seen one of the literal handful of such crystals before.
