Apophyllite, Thaumasite, Prehnite
Apophyllite with thaumasite and prehnite, 15.8 cm, from the Fairfax quarry, Centreville, Fairfax County, Virginia. Self-collected in a thaumasite mass from an inaccessible area of a prehnite tube with an 8-foot aluminum electrical conduit hook, June, 1967. Blast pile removal collapsed that whole prehnite tube section, exposing another section that yielded the specimen painted by Susan Robinson (below); Jeff Scovil photo.
