Cafarsite, Quartz, Hematite
Two weathered cafarsite crystals with quartz and hematite, 3 cm (right) and 1.7 cm (below), from the Lärcheltini Zone. These specimens were in the Carl Bosch collection and predate the recognition of the species by nearly 75 years. The penciled identification on the label indicates these were thought to be pseudomorphs after pyrite at the time. Smithsonian Institution collection. Photo by Chris Stefano.
