Quartz var. Amethyst
Although Amethyst - the purple variety of Quartz - is known from a number of localities in Cornwall, it is usually as banded white and purple masses across sections of veinstone. Individual terminated crystals are rare, which makes this miniature specimen from Bosorne mine near St. Just quite interesting. Not many specimens are known from this mine, but this one - based on its previous collection history - was found pre-1997. Upon it, Amethyst crystals line two small cavities, with the largest crystals reaching 5 mm in length with a rich deep purple colour and good pyramidal terminations. Ex Malcolm Southwood Collection, no. MS 1997.051.
