The botryoidal and reniform (or "kidney-shaped") specimens of Hematite are aptly distinguished as the "Kidney Ore" variety, of which this is a truly superb, larger-than-life example. From its front side, this specimen of Kidney Ore presents has two distinct formations and a unique shape that is reminiscent of an ice-cream cone: the bottom portion of the Hematite is fibrous and extends upwards from a narrow point, widening and sharply transitioning to terraces of beautifully rounded, bubbly botryoides, which come to a smooth plateau at the top of the piece. The side views, however, show the Hematite's fibrous, radiating inside that almost resembles an alluvial curvature towards the inside of the botryoides. Most of the specimen is a dark rust-red color that is blended nicely with accenting patches of dusky grey, which is most evident on the specimen's front side. This piece comes with a custom acrylic base.
