Azurite on Malachite
The La Sal mining district is a premier locality for Azurite and other secondary copper minerals in Utah, and these finds already produce incredibly good crystals; however, to find one on matrix and of this quality is exceptionally rare! Almost all of the front side is covered in La Sal's characteristic Azurite rosettes (up to 1.2 centimeters in diameter), all of which have a sparkly luster and a deep blue color that is heavily contrasted by bright green associations of Malachite and the host rock. Some of the Azurite rosettes towards the bottom-left have partially pseudomorphed into Malachite. The matrix reaches upward in a slight axial twist and narrows to a spear-like point, adding to the specimen's already dramatic presentation. This piece comes with a custom acrylic base.
