Hematite on Malachite
Almost all of this cabinet specimen is composed of superb, spheroidal clusters of botryoidal Malachite, which are covered in a thin, coppery-brown layer of Hematite (which may also be Goethite). Interestingly, some of the botryoides on the front side of the specimen have minor surficial openings that reach through the Hematite coating and reveal the underlying clusters of primary Malachite. Isolated throughout the crevices between the larger botryoidal clusters are smaller groups of Malachite that have an exceptionally contrasting velvety green color and are complemented with a sparkly, microcrystalline surface. While better seen from a closer view, some of the Hematite is also covered in microcrystals and has colorful patches of iridescence. This piece presents very well and comes with a custom acrylic base.
