Magnetite
The Grace Mine produced many interesting and attractive Magnetites when mined during the mid-1900's. In particular, the crystals are known for their unusual striations and surface etchings, as can be seen on these rhombic dodecahedra. The largest Magnetite is 1.5 cm across, and they all have good, metallic luster as they sit on a small amount of matrix. Quality Magnetitites from Grace are rarely available. An interesting historical side note is that this deposit was the first ever found using an airborne magnetometer, which makes perfect sense. ex Bryan Brookmeyer collection, 1983. Featured in the book Collecting Classics: The Legacy of Kay Robertson (Mineralogical Record, May 2025) on page 66.
