Description
Naica in Mun. de Saucillo, Chihuahua, Mexico is probably best known for its ginormous Selenite crystals discovered in what is now rather aptly called the "Cave of the Swords". However, it has produced some other stunning mineral species too, not least Fluorite. Much of the Naica Fluorite is colourless, but what it lacks in colour it more than makes up for in crystal form and lustre. This cabinet-sized Fluorite is a treasure to behold, a mineralogical masterpiece. Crystal clear, colourless, and highly reflective Fluorite displays its cubic crystal structure fantastically well as a mesmerizingly complex series of stepped cubic, square-shaped faces, rising like the sides of a Mayan temple. The level of crystallographic detail seen here is breathtaking. Around the edges of the specimen some of the crystals have developed an almost rounded appearance, but are still covered in intricate crystal faces. A truly remarkable Fluorite worthy of the finest of collections.
