Description
If rare species are what excite you then this specimen should get your pulse going! Kolicite is one of the rarest of species from Sterling Hill mine, Ogdensburg, Sussex County, New Jersey, USA. and the only other place in the world where it has been found is the nearby Franklin mine, but only in a single specimen. Running through this thumbnail specimen is a veinlet containing minute, but well-formed, glassy orange crystals of Kolicite with pinkish Holdenite and black Franklinite. With careful trimming, this veinlet could be split, possibly revealing more crystals of this super rare manganese zinc arsenate silicate hydroxide. A microscope is definitely required, but this specimen does not disappoint. It is accompanied by an Gerstmann Franklin Mineral Museum label dating to the early 1980s.
